almaguin, ael'mae'gwln, a. A political/geographical district in Ontario, Canada know as East Parry Sound. As part of a branding contest for the area in 1958, the winner was Jean Sutherland of Toronto who penned the name from the Algonquin Indians and the Magnetawan River. Almaguin Highlands represents a loose combination of villages, townships, and hamlets along the Queens Highway 11 from Novar in the south, to Powassan in the north, Algonquin Park east border and a curvy middle line of the Parry Sound District. |
